Steve Tucker Bio

I began my motorsports career as a reporter for the Thomasville (NC) Times.

From North Carolina, I joined the staff of the NASCAR News Bureau, first as the program editor and was later promoted to News Bureau Manager.  The NASCAR News Bureau was responsible for coordinating disseminating all public relations information on the various NASCAR series as well as serving as a liaison for NASCAR corporate sponsors.  The News Bureau staff worked closely with all NASCAR officials, track operators, sponsors and competitors.

From NASCAR I joined the Racing Division at STP Corporation in 1981.  Responsibilities at STP included coordinating and managing STP’s sponsorship with Richard Petty and the Petty Enterprise team, coordinating STP motorsports-related sales activities, media liaison and coordinating the STP team’s involvement with Petty’s associate sponsors.  In addition to the responsibilities surrounding the Petty team I was also responsible for managing STP’s NASCAR contingency Program, which encompassed support for the majority of NASCAR divisions.

In 1988, I joined Sports Marketing Enterprises and R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company in the advertising and promotion group.  In this area I was responsible for developing and implementing traveling consumer involving exhibits as well as advertising creative for the Camel brand sponsorship.

In 1993, I was named Senior Manager of the NASCAR Winston Cup operations team.  In this assignment I was responsible for managing the Winston Cup program. I managed our relationship with NASCAR, track operators, Winston Cup drivers, owners and teams; negotiated contractual obligations with each Winston Cup facility and various vendors within the sport.  In this function I was also responsible for coordinating the entertainment of RJR executives and sales customers at Winston Cup races, producing the NASCAR Winston Cup Series season-ending banquet in New York and negotiating event sponsorships.

I assumed responsibility for Winston’s and Camel’s event promotional activities at NASCAR and other Winston sponsored events, beginning in 1995.  The activities have included the development and implementation of the Winston Winner’s Club, The Winston Cup TrackHouse, The Winston Thunder Theater, Team Winston Pit Stop, Winston Race’n Rock and Camel Roadhouse consumer activities at NASCAR Winston Cup and other events.
