I spent a good part of yesterday afternoon trying to get the Seagate Barracuda 4 gig drive to work in Wilma. Finally got it working with a little help from Bob Thompson and ready to mount the drive in the tower only to find out that none of the screw holes match up with the frame of the tower. So, I've about had it with this drive and think I'm going to try to sell it or put it on the shelf for a while. Now that I have stripped the SCSI card in this machine down to just one device I need to work on getting my scanner working again. For some reason the SCSI bus in not seeing the scanner and therefore Windows is not seeing it either. Nothing is ever simple with these damn boxes.
Hey Ernie Irvan...maybe there's a message here. Irvan was injured at Michigan Speedway Friday, five years to date of his near fatal crash at that race track. Maybe there's a message begin sent, but Ernie just can't see it.
The fish seem to have made it through their first night and the water temperature is beginning to drop to normal levels. I thought for a while we might be frying these guys with our initial water temperature near 90 degrees. What is normal you ask? Freshwater tropical fish like their water around 76 degrees Fahrenheit, which is about 25.5 degrees centigrade. Thought I would go ahead and post the conversion here.
If there was going to be a prize for converting gallons to liters, then Bob Thompson [Thompson@ttgnet.com] would win. But there is no prize.
>We used to have a 55 gallon (you can compute the liters) tropical fish tank in our >basement/family room.
208.5? What prize do I win?
Thanks for the conversion. No prize in the box today :-(

Bob Thompson gave me the name of another "daynoter" that I am going to add to the list.
Dr. Keyboard is a computer columnist for the London Times and fortunately he writes his journal with that dry British humor. I have enjoyed reading the few columns I've read so far, but don't plan to adopt Bob's strategy -- he's going back and read all of the good Dr.'s columns from the beginning. Dr. Keyboard's Times column is also posted on the site.
In ready the doctor today I found an interesting link from Microsoft. Here's a link that allows you to test your connection to the internet. BellSouth offers only single channel ISDN and I was pretty pleased to see that my link registered a speed of >62 KBPS and >7 k/bytes per second. However my second test didn't fare as well, hoping on the highway at some 54 Kbps. I feel the need for speed.
