I should have mentioned this yesterday, but didn't, so I will now.
I almost tossed my cookies when I returned to the hotel in Colorado and some of babbling heads were saying that the Kennedy family were the closest thing America has to royalty. Give me a break.
Now I do not want to sound callous about the loss of these three young people to the ocean, but in time I am sure that we will hear this accident was attributed to pilot error. And I for one can not understand this infatuation some Americans have with this family who has chosen public service as their life. At least John Kennedy, Jr. had stayed out of this arena, but it appeared the media, etc. was trying to push him this way. In my opinion the Kennedy clan has long used the system and some Americans love them for it. Not me.
The Kennedy clan has not been without scandal and in my opinion has used the system to their benefit more than once. Royalty they are not.

I very often wanting to open a new window when exploring in Internet Explorer. In the past I have gone to the navigation bar, clicked on File and New Window. Nobody had ever told me that when you run across a link link you want to follow in a new window you could hold down the shift key and click on the link and you would be in a new window, preserving your place in the old window. Amazing things, these computers. Give it a try if you aren't already using this method.
Maybe things will settle down a little now on the news channels that the body of JFK, Jr., his wife and sister-in-law have been located on the ocean's floor. I am sorry these folks lost their lives, but all of the news coverage has been major overkill.

I noticed when looking at my logs from yesterday and saw that I had quite a few hits from the Netherlands. As of result I received the following email from Jan Swijsen [qjsw@oce.nl]
Hello Steve,
Pressing Shift while opening a link works in Opera and in MSIE but not in Netscape. Right clicking on a link pops up a menu with in first or second place the option to open the link in a different window. This is faster than going to the menu but slower than the shift key method and it works in all the browsers I use.
I only learned this after a full year browsing. Which shows that however long you use a program there are always new methods to be learned.
Kudos for your site which is easily navigable and well worth a visit.
Kind regards,
Svenson.
Thanks for your kind words on the Wakeolda site. Maybe since I use Microsoft's Internet Explorer I am assuming everyone else does. Maybe this is the reason for the U.S. Government's anti-trust suit against Microsoft.

Are you interested in the U.S. space program. Check out Daily@NASA.gov where you can keep an eye on the NASA happenings. I am sure the boys and girls at NASA were a bit disappointed when the latest shuttle mission was scrubbed just 6 seconds before blastoff. The mission would have been on the 30th anniversary of the Apollo 11 landing on the moon. You can check out NASA's Apollo 11 commemorative website here.
Made a business trip to South Florida earlier this week (Thursday and Friday) and discovered not much has changed since we lived there. It's still hot, very heavy on the Spanish accent and congested. We lived there from 1981 through 1984 and it's hard to believe how much it has grown, but I did still recognize some the highways and cross streets.
There has probably been some rekindled interest in private airplane accidents since the John F. Kennedy, Jr. tragedy. The FAA and NTSB posts preliminary accident data on the web sites. The FAA posts a table of accident reports for the past 10 days here. The NTSB is a little slower with their information here.
Many of the traveling people in our office prefer Delta Airlines to US Air and often quiz me as to why I fly US Air through Charlotte. There are many reasons with the most prominent being an attempt to avoid the Atlanta Hartsfield airport where Delta has its major hub. I can almost count on less than one hand the number of times I have been through Atlanta and not been delayed. I choose the USA Air hub in Charlotte for this reason: When traveling home and your flight to Greensboro is cancelled or delayed for several hours you can always walk downstairs, grab a rental car and be home before they even think of boarding your original flight. It makes getting home nice and beats sitting around an airport moaning and groaning. If I were connecting through Atlanta I would not have this opportunity. And this is exactly what happened last night on my return from South Florida. Our connecting flight to Greensboro was delayed, so we went downstairs, grabbed a rental car and were home before the flight was even scheduled to board for the short trip to GSO. Makes sense to me.
So the kids and I made a field trip to Greensboro today to return the rental car and feast at Steak and Shake. Now that was a plus.

If you would like a peek at the 2000 NASCAR Winston Cup Schedule Jayski has put together a very preliminary schedule. NASCAR has historically not released their schedule until the end of the year in New York city, but lately has been giving teams a sneak peek in late summer. It will be interesting to see how close Jayksi is when the final product is released.
