A.A Milne and Christopher Robin

I’m going to start out with a little about A.A.Milne’s life.

Milne’s life I think is very interesting. Milne was the youngest brother in his family, and he was born on January 18,1882. In London, England. His father was a schoolteacher at Henley House, Milne first went to school. Then he went on to Westminster, followed by Cambridge where he had a mathematics scholarship. While he was in Cambridge there was a magazine called The Granta he was the editor of. The Granta was a humor magazine.

In 1905 a magazine called Punch had a lot of Milne’s writing in it. In 1906 he started planing another novel. On February 13,1906 he became the assistant editor of Punch the magazine. When the war broke out in Europe on February 10,1910 he went to go help Europe fight the war even though he was a peace loving man. In 1913 Milne and Dorothy de Selincourt. got married. Milne wrote many plays, but there was one that was a success. It was" Mr. Pim Passes By." Milne also wrote a mystery called The Red House Mystery.

On August 21, 1920 Christopher Robin Milne was born. His nickname was Billy. Then when Billy came along Milne started writing books about Billy’s stuffed animals. The stuffed animals were some of the Winnie the Pooh characters. There were four main characters. They were the Winnie the Pooh, Piglet, Eeyrore, and Tigger. I’m going to take a big jump about 36 year later. In 1956 A.A.Milne died. A few years before he had a stroke.

Now we are going to move on to Christopher Robin. Christopher Robin used to call himself Billy Moon, he got the moon part because that is how he pronounced his last name. Christopher had a nanny. His parents, or his nanny never read him a story! That is so very hard to believe to me. As Christopher grew up his parents started spending more time with him. He did not have any other siblings. He enjoyed playing with him and she was good at it. When Christopher was growing up he only had 3 really close friends. The first close friend was his nanny, can you believe that , the second person friend that he was real close to was a girl named Hannah, we don’t know her last name, and the third friend that he was close to was Anne Darlington she was the closest friend he had for many years. Christopher was always a skinny little boy. He had to had strengthening medicine so it could help his bones grow. He also went to the gymnasium and took boxing lessons. Nothing really seemed to work for Christopher Robin. When he spent a lot of time outdoors. When he did things with his parent he wouldn’t do 1 thing with both of his parents. Mostly because they couldn’t decided what to do with Christopher. He also shared many talents with his father. Once when he was in nursery school he pulled a part the lock. His father liked working with tools. Christopher also had a love for math like his father. He also loved writing! He loved the stores that his father wrote. He went to Cambridge in 1946 like his father. He graduated in 1947. At this point in time he was really really really upset with his father. During 1947 this all changed. On July 24,1948 Christopher married Leslie de Selincourt. His parent really didn’t like who he married it was partly because of her parents. Christopher became famous of his father's books in 1971 after his mother passed away. Leslie Christopher’s wife had a baby girl named Clare. The date that she was born is unknown. Clare went to boarding school. She needed special help that her mother and father couldn’t do because they had to work in their bookshop. I’m going to jump forward again in time. It was April 20,1996 that Christopher died.

Now I’m going to talk about Ernest H. Shepherd.

As you probably already know he was the illustrator of the Winnie the Pooh books. He did a lot more than that though. Shepard was born in London. He was born not far from Milne. Shepard’s grandfather was a watercolor painter so Shepard followed in his foot steps. When he was 10 years old his mother died. After his mother died he moved to Hammersmith that is where he attended school where he was forced to draw and paint. He was a very cheerful boy and he liked practical jokes. He had a nick name it was Kipper. During World War 1 he sent in jokes into the magazine Punch. After he started sending in jokes to Punch he started sending in weekly drawings. He was known as the most loved children’s books illustrator. He illustrated many wonderful books. Shepard died on the 15th Anniversary of Winnie the Pooh.

Winnie the Pooh the bear of very little brain has been through many changes from classical pooh to the New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. Even though he has been changed by drawing and different actions he is still a bear of very little brain. He is my favorite character out of the stories, movies, and cartoons. He thinks like me sometimes. I hope you have enjoyed my report and hope you have changed your mind about Winnie the Pooh.
